Courage to Face Our Fears

It is hard to believe that another year is coming to a close as we start getting ready for the High Holy Days. While there is much to celebrate, for many it is also a time of reflection that can bring a sadness, and perhaps loneliness as thoughts come to us of people who are no longer with us, and activities and opportunities which are no longer a part of our lives. These are the kind of challenges that are not uncommon.

About ten years ago I produced this video to share my thoughts on how to find comfort when you think it is lost to you, and hope where you think there may be none to be found.

My message in this video was inspired by the words of Rebbe Nachman of Breslov, the founder of the Breslov Hasidic movement in the late 18th century. Rebbe Nachman gained a large following, and his teachings have been passed down and continue to be studied. His religious philosophy revolved around closeness to God and speaking to God in normal conversation "as you would with a best friend". The concept of hitbodedut is central to his thinking. It is a philosophy that resonates deeply in my thoughts, and perhaps it can in yours too.
