Dreams and Time
Be the Dream is a story of a vision once thought to be lost - only to be rediscovered under a veil of fear and self-doubt, uprooted with hope and inspiration.
The American poet Langston Hughes said, "Hold fast to dreams, for when dreams go, life is a barren field frozen with snow."
At the beginning of this journey is called life, dreaming is as essential as breathing the air. Our dreams nourish our souls. Growing from youthful naivete to the beginnings of awareness and going from ignorance to knowing. Our dreams often become casualties of everyday living. As time passes, dreams of your youthful enthusiasms are faced with the reality of life's demands, and thus we must work harder to ensure the reality of our dreams, for hope is our birthright. In life, people will argue against your hopes and dreams, but I urge you to never lose faith. I dreamt of doing something great, and here I reflect on years as a Rabbi, husband, and father...dreams that became a reality by listening to my inner voice.
On this life journey, opportunity awaits all of us who dare to dream. Despite limitations imposed by circumstances encountered across time, we must not lose hope. Our eyes tear as our heart aches for a sampling of more time, but the clock changes each passing year more quickly. The cruel passage of time can establish irreparable losses. When our body refuses to respond to the wishes of our brain and when illness challenges the human body at any age...it is in that moment that everything alters; our reality, our dreams. One may think time is against us no matter our age thus, we experience each passing season more rapidly and intensely. With every challenge you have faced, never lose faith in your dreams. Your dreams are the key to unlocking great hope and opportunity but remember, time is precious.
Let this passage about dreams intertwined with the reality of time be a reminder to slow down and to pause for an intentional breath. In the time you have remaining, reconnect with those you lost touch with and spiritually connect with those who have passed. In this time you have remaining, lend a helping hand to one in need, but above all else, in the time you have left, dismiss petty matters and idle gossip for a heart of compassion. Today is only for today. Dream for the best. Dream for the continuance of hope. Dream for our country and community. Dream and never lose faith in yourself and cherish life's littlest moments to the fullest.
